Your Business Goals in 2020

As your business is working hard to get to the next level, cross off goals and make 2020 your year, BBB® Serving Central Oklahoma is ready to help you through this process. Our goal is to provide local businesses the advice they need to better their business in 2020.

Does your business track company goals? Did you know that based on a survey conducted by Forbes, the majority of businesses don’t set goals throughout the year? 2020 can be the year that your business starts to implement goal culture into your routine. So, where does that leave your business and how can you get started?

Make a plan

If you haven’t already done it, consider holding an internal meeting to connect with your team about how you can improve your business in the new year. Brainstorming will help you and your team get energized about new ideas, programs and products.

BBB® encourages business owners and leaders to ask tough questions throughout the planning process. Internal planning meetings are a good time to connect with front-facing employees who understand the day-to-day.

Often, client facing employees can provide insight into current obstacles your business is facing and with the meeting time set aside, this gives you the opportunity to talk through these frustrations and come up with solutions to these problems.

Set goals

Now that you’ve connected with your staff, you should have a good idea of what pain points your business might face in the new year. Take this information and work them into your new year goals.

For example, if you know that your business needs to work on your digital presence, you might set a goal to grow your social media engagement by ten percent before you reach mid-year and create a plan to enable the staff to meet that goal. The most important part of setting goals is to be specific about what you want to achieve and set a time-line, as well as assign duties to the appropriate teammates. Create a routine

It won’t matter how great your goals are if you don’t make a plan to achieve them. Consider breaking down your goals and give yourself and your team plenty of time to work on them daily, weekly or monthly.

For example, if you wanted to accomplish the social media goal mentioned earlier, you might take 30 minutes each day to work on building a content calendar and prescheduling your posts with a social media management tool, for example Sprout Social. If you don’t have a management tool, you can pre-write your posts in a digital document and refer back as you post.
